DOE Selects Alder Fuels in $118 Million Program to Boost Domestic Biofuels Production

WASHINGTON, DC – Michael McAdams, President of the Advanced Biofuels Association, issued the following statement in response to the Department of Energy’s decision to include ABFA member Alder Fuels as one of 17 projects in a $118 million program to accelerate the production of sustainable biofuels for America’s transportation and manufacturing needs:

“We are pleased that the Biden administration has announced $118 million in funding to support increased domestic production of low carbon biofuels and that ABFA member Alder Fuels was selected to participate in the program.

While this is an important step, we urge the Biden administration to help advanced biofuels reach their fullest potential in support of their climate ambitions. We strongly encourage the administration to re-evaluate and increase the advanced biofuel volumes proposed by the EPA in December for the 2023 – 2025 Renewable Fuel Standard Program.

Advanced biofuels, derived from renewable, non-food biomass, must deliver at least a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and many deliver up to 80% in emissions reductions. These low carbon fuels, which can be produced in our own backyard and deployed using our existing fuel infrastructure at virtually no additional cost to U.S. taxpayers, can play a critical role in achieving our national climate ambitions by reducing emissions from America’s transportation sector.

We look forward to engaging with the EPA about the proposed Renewable Volume Obligation ruling for 2023 – 2025, as well as other policy directives to ensure a cleaner, more energy independent future for America.”

– Michael McAdams, President of the Advanced Biofuels Association
